CASA Flight Instructor Rating

Ready to take charge of your aviation career? The CASA Grade 3 Flight Instructor Rating is your first step toward becoming a certified instructor within Australia’s official aviation framework. As a Grade 3 instructor, you’ll be able to teach students from their very first flight all the way up to their Commercial Pilot License (CPL). This rating requires strong discipline, deep aeronautical knowledge, and sharp flying skills.

Our CASA Instructor Rating Course at Wrighton Aviation will equip you with everything you need to succeed. You’ll learn how to deliver briefings, conduct in-flight lessons, develop lesson plans, understand aviation regulations, and master the fundamentals of flight instruction.

Wrighton Aviation also provides upgrade training for qualified instructors who wish to expand their privileges with Grade 2 or Grade 1 endorsements, enhancing your ability and expanding your privileges as an instructor.

Minimum Requirements:

  • A passion for aviation and a desire to teach the next generation of pilots.
  • Hold a CASA-issued Commercial Pilot License (CPL(A)).
  • Valid ASIC (Aviation Security Identification Card).
  • Be medically fit (Class 1 or Class 2 medical certificate).
  • 200 hours flight time, including 100 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC).
  • Successfully complete the Principles and Methods of Instruction (PMI) course.
  • Hold a valid Spinning Endorsement.
  • Pass the Flight Instructor Rating written exam.
  • Pass a flight test with a CASA examiner.

Benefits of an Instructor Rating:

  • Join the big leagues of flight instructors! With a CASA Flight Instructor Rating, you’ll have the opportunity to teach students at every level, from beginners to those pursuing their commercial licenses.
  • Highly sought-after qualification – Instructors are in demand across the industry! Airlines, flight schools, and regional carriers need experienced instructors to deliver initial and ongoing training to pilots.
  • Shape the future of aviation! As an instructor, you’ll play a pivotal role in developing the next generation of pilots, guiding them to take flight, pass their exams, and grow as skilled aviators.
  • Expanded privileges and opportunities – As a Grade 3 instructor, you’ll have the chance to upgrade to Grade 2 and Grade 1 after accumulating the required hours. This progression allows you to authorise first solo flights, conduct flight reviews, and add advanced endorsements to teach more complex tasks, giving you greater teaching flexibility.
