At Wrighton Aviation, we offer both CASA (Civil Aviation Safety Authority) and RAAus (Recreational Aviation Australia) instructor ratings, giving you the tools to share your skills, inspire students, and elevate your aviation career.
CASA Flight Instructor Rating
The CASA Grade 3 Flight Instructor Rating is your first step toward becoming a certified instructor within Australia's official aviation framework. As a Grade 3 instructor, you'll be able to teach students from their very first flight all the way up to their Commercial Pilot License (CPL).
Our CASA Instructor Rating Course will equip you with everything you need to succeed. You'll learn how to deliver briefings, conduct in-flight lessons, develop lesson plans, understand aviation regulations, and master the fundamentals of flight instruction.
Wrighton Aviation also provides upgrade training for qualified instructors who wish to expand their privileges with Grade 2 or Grade 1 endorsements.
Minimum Requirements
- Hold a CASA-issued Commercial Pilot License (CPL(A))
- Valid ASIC (Aviation Security Identification Card)
- Be medically fit (Class 1 or Class 2 medical certificate)
- 200 hours flight time, including 100 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC)
- Successfully complete the Principles and Methods of Instruction (PMI) course
- Hold a valid Spinning Endorsement
- Pass the Flight Instructor Rating written exam
- Pass a flight test with a CASA examiner

RAAus Flight Instructor Rating
If you've got a passion for recreational flying and a love for light aircraft, the RAAus Flight Instructor Rating could be your perfect fit! Help new pilots earn their Recreational Pilot Certificate (RPC) and guide them in mastering light sport aircraft.
What You'll Need
- An RAAus-issued Pilot Certificate (RPC or higher)
- Hold a current CASA Class 2 medical certificate
- Complete the RAAus Instructor Rating Course
- Successfully complete the Principles and Methods of Instruction (PMI) course
- Have at least 100 hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) in recreational aircraft
- Pass the RAAus Flight Instructor Rating written exam
- Pass a flight test with a pilot examiner
